Final Year Project – COVID-19 Detection Using Deep Learning - 2022
CDD: A System for COVID-19 Detection from Chest X-ray Images
This work proposes a novel convolutional neural network called Covid Diagnosis Detection (CDD) for the detection of COVID-19 from chest X-ray images. The proposed model is based on deep learning, using pre-trained CNN architectures combined with transfer learning and fine-tuning techniques, allowing knowledge learned from large-scale datasets to be transferred to a COVID-19-specific dataset.
Experimental evaluations were conducted using a dataset from São Vicente, with the aim of supporting medical diagnosis and COVID-19 screening. The CDD system enables healthcare professionals to register patients, automatically run the proposed model, and generate a certificate presenting the test results.
The proposed network achieved an accuracy of 96.1%, comparable to state-of-the-art image classification models, demonstrating its potential as a reliable decision-support tool and a strong foundation for future research and improvements in COVID-19 detection.
